First Project Scientific Publication in European Journal of Remote Sensing

The U_CAN project team is pleased to announce the release of our first scientific publication within the project, published in the renowned "European Journal of Remote Sensing" (Impact Factor 3.7). The article, authored by Sofiia Drozd Nataliia Kussul researchers from the National Technical University of Ukraine "Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute", examines the possibilities of installing large solar power plants in Ukraine, which is of utmost importance in the context of post-war energy infrastructure restoration and within the framework of the European Green Deal strategic plan until 2030.

The study encompasses a multi-criteria analysis of land suitability in Ukraine, based on climatic, topographic, and land use criteria. The authors utilized remote sensing data and fuzzy logic methods to standardize the criteria, resulting in the creation of a suitability map for solar power plant placement. According to the research findings, more than 35.68% of Ukraine's territory has a medium suitability index (0.65–0.7), while approximately 18.82% shows a high suitability index (<0.7). The southern regions of Ukraine are particularly favorable.
