Climate Neutrality Pilot Use Case

Challenge

The main problem we aim to address in our pilot case is improving energy efficiency and achieving climate neutrality in the city of Ivano-Frankivsk. Our initiative focuses on implementing green technologies in public buildings, particularly through the installation of photovoltaic systems. This will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions, decrease fossil fuel consumption, and improve the city's environmental situation. Additionally, the project aims to raise citizens' awareness of the importance of climate-neutral solutions and engage them in actively participating in the implementation of green technologies.

Goal

Achieve climate neutrality by implementing green technologies in Ivano-Frankivsk's public buildings

General Description of the Pilot Use Case

The Ivano-Frankivsk pilot case focuses on achieving climate neutrality through the implementation of green technologies in public buildings. The project will install photovoltaic systems, smart meters, LED lighting, and other energy-efficient solutions in a selected public building in the city center. This initiative aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, decrease reliance on fossil fuels, and improve the overall environmental quality of Ivano-Frankivsk. Additionally, the project will involve local authorities, community groups, and stakeholders in capacity-building activities to foster dialogue on climate policies and consensus-building. The outcomes and best practices from this pilot case will be integrated into Ivano-Frankivsk's Green Municipal Agreement and the Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan (SECAP) 2030, ensuring scalability and replicability of climate-neutral solutions. This case aims to serve as a model for other Ukrainian cities pursuing similar environmental goals.

Measures and Initiatives Included

  • Installation of photovoltaic systems on a selected public building.

  • Implementation of smart meters for efficient energy monitoring.

  • Capacity-building workshops for local authorities and stakeholders on climate policies.

  • Integration of project outcomes into the city's Green Municipal Agreement and SECAP 2030.

Technologies and Innovations Involved in the Pilot Use Case

In the Ivano-Frankivsk case, we are utilizing several advanced technologies and innovations to achieve climate neutrality and enhance energy efficiency. The primary technology being implemented is the installation of photovoltaic (PV) systems on a selected public building, which will generate renewable energy and reduce reliance on fossil fuels. Additionally, we are deploying smart meters to monitor energy consumption in real-time, allowing for more efficient energy management and identification of areas for improvement. These technologies are complemented by capacity-building initiatives, which include workshops and training sessions for local authorities and stakeholders. These sessions aim to build technical expertise and foster a collaborative approach to climate policy development and implementation. Furthermore, the integration of project outcomes into Ivano-Frankivsk's Green Municipal Agreement and the Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan (SECAP) 2030 ensures that the innovations and best practices from this pilot case are scalable and replicable in other cities pursuing similar environmental goals.

Long-term Results

The long-term goals of the Ivano-Frankivsk pilot case are to achieve climate neutrality and significantly enhance the city's energy efficiency. By installing photovoltaic systems and implementing smart energy management solutions, we aim to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and dependence on fossil fuels. We also seek to establish a model of sustainable energy practices that can be replicated in other Ukrainian cities, contributing to nationwide environmental goals. Another key objective is to foster a culture of environmental awareness and engagement among local authorities and the community, ensuring continued commitment to green initiatives. Furthermore, the project aims to integrate these climate-neutral solutions into the city's strategic planning documents, such as the Green Municipal Agreement and the Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan (SECAP) 2030. This will help ensure the scalability and sustainability of the project's outcomes, promoting long-term environmental, economic, and social benefits for Ivano-Frankivsk and beyond.

Pilot Use Case Contribution to Climate Neutrality

The Ivano-Frankivsk pilot case contributes to achieving climate neutrality by implementing key renewable energy and energy efficiency measures. The installation of photovoltaic systems on a selected public building generates clean, renewable energy, reducing the city's reliance on fossil fuels and decreasing greenhouse gas emissions. Smart meters are used to monitor energy consumption in real-time, allowing for efficient energy management and identification of areas for improvement. These measures help the city optimize its energy use and transition to more sustainable practices.

Additionally, the project involves capacity-building initiatives for local authorities and stakeholders, enhancing their ability to develop and implement effective climate policies. By fostering collaboration and raising awareness about the benefits of climate-neutral solutions, the project encourages community engagement and support for green initiatives. Integrating the project's outcomes into Ivano-Frankivsk's Green Municipal Agreement and the Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan (SECAP) 2030 ensures that these efforts are sustainable and scalable, helping the city make significant strides towards its climate neutrality goals.
